Stuff That Doesn’t Make Sense…

I know most a good chunk of the traffic here at PaintballGuns.net comes from those who are under 18. In no way am I trying to be Mr. Safety or Mr. Perfect here today. There are as many things in paintball that make sense as do not make sense. These are some of the things that don’t make sense. Read on and you will find we can change many of them. COMMENTS ARE ENCOURAGED!

1.) Picking fun at newbie’s. Poking fun at the newbie player because they don’t know what to you (the veteran player) seems like the obvious is just not cool. The newbie’s are the future of our game. Consider taking a newbie under your veteran wing and showing them the ropes. Take the time to invest in your sport and help out a newbie and help them move up the ranks.

2.) An electro that is capable of 20 BPS with a gravity fed hopper on it. Why does this not make sense? A gravity hopper is capable of about 5-8 ball per second. While the marker is capable of 20 balls per second. This combination will blend paint when the marker out shoots the hopper. Sometimes when you are saving up for new gear you have to do this exact thing. Just be aware that you will blend paint faster than a Osterizer at puree mode if you out shoot the hopper.

Virtue and PSP Announce Apparel Line

PSP Virtue Apparel

Paintball Sports Promotions and Virtue (or should I say ******?) are teaming up together to start a brand new apparel line (clothing).

Virtue has now made the new clothing lineup available online and also available to interested dealers and proshops. The deal, which has Virtue attending all of the PSPs, has been in effect since the start of the season.

The clothing itself isn’t half bad. Virtue has been to all of the PSP’s past events so I had a chance to try out the new clothing line. The fabric and material they use is nice, but again, nothing special. I think they did a fairly nice job using colors and designing graphics. If it looks good, wear it – that’s my motto.

You can check out more of their clothing line here.

Paintball Cruise?

Paintball Cruise

So I was thumbing through PB2X magazine and saw that there’s a “Paintball Cruise” provided by Carnival and sponsored by Kingman, Virtue, and Xhaled. The deadline was June 1st, so you missed your chance. But Ollie Lang, Matty Marshall, Nicky Cuba, Bea Youngs, and Lisa Harvey are all planning to be there. Don’t get me wrong, a cruise sounds great – But I think it will flop. I just find it hard to see how out of all things, a cruise is chosen for a paintballers vacation. Paintballers are one of the poorest athletes out there, and they’re asking for each person to cough up $500 a ticket. So I’m not too sure what the point of having a “paintball cruise” is, but whatever floats your boat. Check out PaintballCruise.com if you’d like to read more about it.

PSP Prices Rise Again

Prices for this year’s PSP events are rising faster than gasoline. In 2006, admission for spectators was free and it only cost $100 to get a media pass to film inside the nets. Registration for teams weren’t nearly as high as they are now.

Tickets are $15 each day or $50 for the event.

– Keely Watson

Starting on Monday, May 28th entry fees will increase to the following:

* Open Xball – $2950
* D2 Xball – $2700
* D3 Xball – $2600
* Masters Division – $1700
* D2 5-man – $1500
* D3 5-man (Fri-Sun) – $1300
* D3 5-man (Sat-Sun) – $1500
* D4 5-man (Fri-Sun) – $1100
* D4 5-man (Sat-Sun) – $1300

– Keely Watson

Another interesting statistic: It costs paintball vendors $80,000 PER EVENT to sell their paint to players.

Another one: Two years ago I got my very first press pass for free from Keely Watson. The next year (last year), it cost me $100. This year it jumped to $1200 PER EVENT.

I don’t mean to discredit Lane Wright (owner) or the PSP events in general; But I can’t help but wonder how the paintball community will respond to the unsteady increase in prices for admission, registration, and press.

STAKO Bottles Banned From Millennium Series

Stako

This past weekend, a Millenium Series staff member found multiple STAKO nitrogen tanks “leaking out of the body (NOT the regulator) and producing ‘bubbles’ under the surface of the bottle body” (68Caliber.com). All STAKO air tanks are now banned from all Millennium Series events. I guess most paintballers prefer that their tanks not blow bubbles… but hey.

What are STAKO bottles you might ask? STAKO bottles are nitrogen air tanks that are super light compared to others. STAKO uses carbon fiber to wrap the tank instead of aluminum, which is what determines most of the tank’s weight.

What’s STAKO have to say?
STAKO briefly responds to the situation here.

What’s Keeping Paintball from Growing?

Yes, we’ve all heard that paintball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and Canada; but did you know that statistics are showing the sport’s growth rate has actually declined these last few years? Not by much of course, nothing to really notice, but it certainly isn’t growing as much as it was a few years ago. Why is this?

Peter Irizarry, owner of Reball, testifies to the sport’s current standing in America by saying,

Paintball doesn’t have a focal point. There isn’t one thing to look at like most other sports have.
