So what’s the best paintball gun out there?

Confused So what defines a good paintball gun? There are thousands of requests every month asking “What is the best paintball gun out there?”. First of all, there is no best paintball gun. “Best” is all relative to each and every person – the manufacturers know they can’t please every person, so they tend to target a certain age group by improving their latest gun model’s feature to the maximum.

Tippmann Take Tippmann, for example. Notice how they’re one of the leading paintball manufacturers on the market today – and they have yet to release a “high-end” paintball gun. Why is this, are they stupid? No. Tippmann markers are targeted more towards the Beginners and Scenario paintball players. Tippmann focuses more on its reliability; since their guns usually take more of a beating.

So, to answer our original question of what makes the best paintball gun; we will never really know. Even if a company makes a paintball marker with the best accuracy, best reliability, and the best upgrade-ability, there will always be a group of players that just don’t like the looks, or they had a bad experience with it, or they just think it’s too expensive.

When deciding which gun you’ll want to buy in the near future, do a little research (read reviews, watch videos, etc) on the markers that interest you most. Determine what kind of paintball game you will be playing – whether it’s speedball, woodsball, or scenerio; look into the top 3 best rated paintball guns and then see which one is best for you.

Things to consider and research when buying a new paintball gun:

Accuracy
Gas-efficiency
Upgrade Ability
Value (how much will it resell for used?)

Don’t let any manufacturer’s marketing allow you to believe that they have created the “best paintball gun ever”. Good luck on the field.

Sweet Spot Your Regulator

Now we all know the less air you use the more shots and better consistency you get. This is a quick guide to help you get the most of your fills…

What you need:
– Gun
– Air (Co2 or N2)
– About 200 paintballs (1 hopper)
– Allen wrenches (different guns use different size wrenches, so just get a set of all sizes)
– Chronograph (for fine tuning)
Sweet Spot Regulator

Step one
Turn your velocity all the way out. Then turn it two turns in.

Step two
Turn your regulator and LPR (if you have one) as far out as possible

Step three
Slowly turn the reg up a quarter turn then take two or three shots, make note of your velocity

Step four
As soon as the velocity starts to go down then turn the reg back 1/8 and your set to go

*NOTE* To time the LPR on a cocker, you hold down the trigger so the back block is back then turn it until it hits the cocking rod, then just turn it like 1/4 turn after that to be good.

2005 Angel Speed

2005 Angel Speed

The New Year is coming (2007, if you’re not keeping track). I thought it’d be most appropriate to review the 2005 Angel Speed. What sets a good paintball gun apart from the other wannabes is its reliability. The 2005 Angels Speed has been out for about three years now, and it’s been through heaven and hell on the paintball field. I, personally, have heard good and bad things regarding WDP’s speed machine. Hopefully you won’t get suckered into all the manufacturer’s marketing gimmicks claiming world records and useless features and spending an extra $500 on it.

Read the 2005 Angel Speed review and see if compares to the paintball guns in this age or not.

The Dye DM5 and DM6

Dye DM5Dye DM6

Firstly, I unleashed reviews on the Dye DM5, Dye DM6, and the new Tippmann X7. Each one of these guns have had one of the highest publicity ever on the paintball market. Dye’s DM5 and DM6 are well known for their easy maintenance and excellent accuracy.

Tippmann X7

Tippmann X7

The new Tippmann X7, although, has already had high acclaims for its versatility. In other words, it’s very likely that the X7 will be the new 98 custom – as far as upgrades goes. Tippmann quotes that there are “1000 different looks”.

Gun Problems? Need Advice? – Ask Kyle

Swearing

Over the last 6 years of my life, I’ve thought about paintball almost every day in some way, shape or form. Because of this, I’ve had the lovely experience of “trial and error” when it came to gun repair and maintenance. My very first Tippmann 98 custom had the most problems, of course. One night, I was so, uh, “frustrated” with my marker I decided to take a sand belt to it. Lo and behold, it did not fix the problem. I did, eventually, learn how to manage my gun leaks, jams, and electronic malfunctions more patiently. So, instead of hating the manufacturers for releasing such pieces of garbage, I’m opening up a personal ‘Ask Kyle’ sort of deal in our paintball forum. Sort of like a Q&A for paintball.

Feel free to post in the appropriate forum category your current marker, hopper, or equipment problems. Also, if you need some suggestions or advice on what equipment to pick now or in the future, I’d be more than happy to help out! I’ll try to get back to all questions within a reasonable amount of time.

Cheers to everyone!

PM7 Released – What Now, PM6?

Pm6

As many of you probably know, the new Proto Matrix 2007, or PM7, has been released. Yes of course it’s going to look slimmer and more l33t; but what about the PM6? There have been only minor internal adjustments to Proto’s new release. Proto, as well as every other paintball marker manufacturer, focuses more on the physical looks of the gun, so it seems as if there bigger changes to the newer model than you think. Oh, and they jack the price up $400 more just for kicks. My theory involves the idea that there really isn’t much to the PM7 other than the looks, so why not go with the PM6? Now, I’m not saying that the PM7 isn’t a great gun… It sure is. Quite honestly it does look very attractive – but is it worth the money? That’s for you to decide.

In the mean time, read up on the 2006 Proto Matrix, and see if that won’t quench your urge.

Kingman Spyder Gun Trigger Mods

Spyder_imagine

The Kingman Spyder is the most popular paintball gun on the market.  It has been for the last decade.  Why is this?  It’s not because it has the fastest ROF (rate of fire) record, or the best beam-breaking eyes… It’s because of its upgrade availability.  Kingman Spyders have that unique capability to have the crap kicked out of it and still shoot fine the next day.  Because of this, creative paintballers have gone to work, trying to find some way to get tweak or mod the gun to get the best bang for their buck.  We’ve published a trigger mod mod for the Kingman Spyder.  The mod is applicable to most of the Spyders available on the market right now.  It’s fairly simple, and its effects are tremendous.  It’ll increase your rate of fire up to twice as fast.
