Product – WGP SNIPER
Period of Use – 1 Year
Similar products used – WGP Black Magic Sniper, CCM SS-25, CCM Series 5 pump, Phantom Stock Class pump
Marker Setup – WGP Outcast Sniper with the WGP pump kit, stock barrel to begin with, 72ci 4500psi Crossfire Stubby Nitro tank, Brass Eagle 40 round mini hopper.
Recommended Upgrades – A longer barrel, preferably a 14 inch ported barrel if recommended. An upgraded bolt to decrease kick and increase efficiency. A bottomline with an On/Off. The Stock regulator is horrible, so an upgrade regulator, such as a Dye Hyper 2 is definitely recommended. An upgraded trigger frame will also do you much good.
Strengths – The first Auto-cocker actually sold as a pump. Stock Efficiency, lightweight, maneuverability, looks.
Weaknesses – Stock barrel is HORRIBLE. The stock trigger frame can sometime give you a rash on your finger under the trigger guard, and the stock trigger frame lacks in all aspects. The Stock regulator breaks down too much. The gun comes with a standard ASA and not an On/Off, a regular feature in today’s guns.
Review – I bought this gun right away, long awaiting an auto cocker to be sold with the pump kit already on it. The gun is ready to be shot out of the box, but definitely needs to be fine tuned to bring it to the max output. Out of the box it looks clean and ready to go, so I brought it out to my local field to test it out.
Accuracy – I was HORRIFIED when I saw this guns barrel. Only 8 Inches! How could WGP sell this gun as a “Sniper†and give it an 8 inch barrel? Needless to say, the 8 inch stock barrel was swerving after 50 field and was incredibly loud, so I slapped on my Dye Boomstick. Once the Boomstick was on, the balls were flying far and accurately.
Looks – The Sniper does look pretty good, although it is VERY shiny. It would be pretty hard for scenario player to avoid being seen with this gun.
Efficiency – Efficiency is not a problem with this gun. First off, because you are not going to be shooting 1000 balls a game with a pump gun. Secondly, like all auto cockers, it is very efficient on air. You can expect to shoot 1200 balls off a full 68ci 4500psi tank. You can buy an upgraded bolt and upgraded internals to make the gun even more efficient.
How did it shoot? – The stock pump stroke on this gun left something to be desired, but after some fiddling with the springs and the pump arm, I had the stroke as smooth as butter. If you time your strokes right, you can actually shoot pretty quickly. The stock trigger and regulator are horrible though. The trigger pull is a good 2 inches, and both are metallic and heavy. Once you get yourself a better trigger frame and regulator, it will be smooth sailing.
Chopping – This gun DOES NOT CHOP as long as you do not short stroke the pump stroke, and are using half decent paint. Even if you do get a chop, you merely take out your bolt, and run a barrel swab throughout the entire gun, and you are ready to go in a matter of seconds.
Reliability/Warranty – The WGP Sniper is one of the most reliable guns ever made. If you have any gun sense what so ever, this gun will NEVER brake down on you. Anything wrong is generally just because you haven’t fine tuned the pressure of your inline regulator with the back. If you do find the need to send it to someone, the gun does come with a 1 year warranty. WGP has a quick turnaround, generally a week, but they often forget key aspects of why you sent it in, and are sort of cold when you speak to them on the phone of through email.
Conclusion – This gun is a cheap and solid gun for someone looking to get into the pump game, but needs considerable upgrades until it will compete with some of the other higher end pump guns.
Rating – 8/10
